SLPP Wants to Continue

Since winning the presidency in 2018, and the re-election in 2023, the SLPP under Julius Maada Bio has held power both in the executive and with a commanding majority in the Parliament. With Bio’s second term ending in 2028, the party must now confront the question of succession.
Who will be the party’s flagbearer — and thus, candidate for president in 2028? The answer will shape not only the party’s internal cohesion but also its electoral prospects nationwide, especially given rising opposition pressure and challenges tied to governance, gerrymandering allegations, and the never-ending public demand for better leadership.
Consequently, 2025–2026 marks a formative period as the party is reorganizing its internal structures, reconciling divisions, and laying the groundwork for a credible, unified campaign or risk fragmentation.
